Martin Pelikan received an NSF award for research on model-directed hybridization in stochastic optimization. The total amount is about $446K for three years. The project title is "Model-Directed Hybridization: Principled Design of Hybrids of Model Building, Metaheuristics and More Traditional Optimization Techniques". Most of the award will be used to support MEDAL. - 13 August, 2008

Code to accompany MEDAL Report No. 2008001 on NK landscapes was posted online. The code provides three main packages: (1) A generator for random problem instances of the NK landscape model, (2) a branch-and-bound complete algorithm for NK landscapes, and (3) a genetic algorithm code illustrating the use of the code in one's own optimization method. The preprint Sporadic Model Building for Efficiency Enhancement of the Hierarchical BOA by M. Pelikan, K. Sastry, and D. E. Goldberg is now online as MEDAL Report 2007009. The paper has recently been accepted by the Genetic Programming and Evolvable Machines journal at Springer, and is a significantly extended version of the IlliGAL Report No. 2005006. - 25 July, 2007

A new version (1.1) of the dependency-tree EDA source code has been published in the software page. The new version uses faster estimation of mutual information and it eliminates some of the bugs of the previous version. - 12 November, 2006
